Wild 198 is on sale now
Wild’s Summer 2025 issue is on sale now!
Not only is Dec 1 the official start of Summer, it’s also the day Wild #198, our Summer 2025 issue, officially goes on sale. And is it ever a cracking issue! Being Summer, paddling is of course featured. The issue has a photo essay on a spectacular packrafting trip down Tassie’s Vale River (check out that cover shot!), a sea kayaking adventure from in Palau, and tips on how to get into packrafting. But paddling is just the start. There are walking stories from NZ’s Ruahines and from Timor-Leste, along with a very special and very personal 4,000+ word feature by Victoria Bruce on an extended trip through SW Tassie with her young daughter; it’s beautifully written story full of both pain and hope. And for our Track Notes, we explain how to improve on Kosciuszko NP’s new Snowies Alpine Walk (which shows great promise but has a flawed network design) by turning it into an amazing four-or-five-day loop. It’s a perfect high-country trip for Summer!
There’s also bikepacking around Sydney; skiing near Chamonix (Oz’s Summer is France’s Winter); and a final, beautiful photo essay from one of Wild’s longest-term contributors, the late Craig Fardell. There’s also a feature on sleuthing around through Wollemi NP for one of Australia’s rarest plants (and no, it’s not the Wollemi pine), plus a Q+A with ‘Hot’ Henry Barber, the American who revolutionised Australian climbing back in 70s. We also have tips if you want to get into a new hobby over the Summer—plein air painting while you’re out on the trail.
And as always, there are our regular columnists, Green Pages, gear reviews and opinion pieces, as well as a tribute to Zac Dooling in our Wild Shot. So this Summer, get off your phone, sit down, and spend some time engaging in quality reading. Wild has no dud stories. No crap writing. And lots of amazing imagery.
