2022 marks the 50th anniversary of the shameful and tragic drowning of Lake Pedder.
Lake Pedder: By bob Brown
Fifty years ago, in 1972, the jewel of Tasmania’s Southwest, Lake Pedder, was shamefully drowned by the Tasmanian Hydro-Electric Commission. In memory of the tragic event, Bob Brown has digitised and shared his book Lake Pedder, first published in 1985, with Wild readers. The book is full of poignant writing and amazing archival imagery. You can either view a selection of the imagery as a slide show, or right click on the link below to download the entire book as a pdf, which includes the writing. Before you enjoy the book, though, remember this: the fight is not yet over. The dam can be dismantled. The time to restore Lake Pedder is now. Learn more at lakepedder.org
