Spring has sprung, and with it comes Wild Issue #189. It’s an awesome issue. For starters, check out that cover! Adventure may be synonymous with the outdoors, but the real game isn’t so much outside us as within. In our cover story, Blue Mountains climbing guide Anzhela Malysheva tackles fear head on, and gives the subject a lyrical, thoughtful and brave appraisal.

What else is there? Well, there’s a photo essay on Tassie’s iconic Overland Track. A profile on Paul Pritchard and Melinda Oogjes (Readers might remember Paul, who became a hemiplegic after a climbing injury, from the beautiful piece he wrote in Wild a few issues back). An off-trail exploration of the Red Centre’s Giles Massif. A superbly photographed feature on MTB-ing in Lapland. An exploration of NSW’s rarely talked about Goulburn River NP. A piece on the joys of one of Australia’s most significant backcountry skiing destinations: Victoria’s Razorback Ridge. For our track notes, we give the lowdown on day walks on Tasmania’s Gordon River Road (it’s easy to forget that walking in Tassie’s Southwest doesn’t necessarily have to involve an epic). And this issue’s Reader’s Adventure, called ‘The Best Worst Trip Ever’ is a piece from Ross Hanan, as he ventures to K2’s base camp. It’s a rollicking story.

As for conservation, there’s an important story on phytophthora, and the efforts being made to stop the pathogen. There’s a piece on the reintroduction of platypus into Australia’s oldest national park, the Royal. And there’s a piece on Tassie’s Gordonvale Reserve, which is celebrating its tenth birthday this year. And, of course, there’s our regular Green Pages section.

There’s more too—opinion pieces on Nepal’s trekking industry and on solo female adventurers; a how-to on adventuring with kids; spring backcountry skiing in NZ; the return of our popular ‘Unsung Heroes’; and more—but to make sure you get it all, the time to subscribe is now. Head to
