Wild 193 is on sale now

Wild’s Spring 2024 issue is on sale now!

Adventure Entertainment 11.09.2024

Wild #193, Spring 2024 is here, and is it ever an awesome issue! And, well, painful too. Hilarious as well. It’s our Fiasco issue, and while we don’t usually do themed issues, if we were going to break that mould, this seemed a fun theme to run with. Yes, when things go spectacularly wrong in the outdoors, although it may not be fun to those actually involved, for everyone else, reading about the trials and tribulations of others can be, if not interesting, downright humorous. We asked the Wild community to send us in their stories of when things haven’t worked out precisely to plan. And we were sent some crackers.

Not everything in the issue is fiasco-related, though. We have a mix of beautifully photographed, well-crafted adventure stories from around the planet: Hiking in the Warrumbungles and Wilsons Prom and the Sunshine Coast and NSW’s New England. MTB-ing in arguably one of Europe’s best kept adventure secrets, Slovenia. Big wall climbing in Yosemite. And there are two ski mountaineering pieces from NZ: one about the mind games of stepping up to climbing in the high alpine; the other about the mind games of being caught in avalanche.

We also have a special conservation piece in this issue: long-time Wild contributor Grant Dixon shares the stunning imagery he’s captured in recent years from the Spero-Wanderer region of western Tasmania. The region, despite its beauty and wildness, seems to fly under the radar, and it deserves inclusion in the Tasmanian Wilderness World Heritage Area.

There’s also a profile on the literal trail-blazing legend Kerry Lowe. We look into the invasion of red fire ants that threatens not just our ecology, but our adventure lifestyles too. There are our regular columnists as well, along with our informative Green Pages. Oh, there are our gear reviews, too, and this time we include a product that many will assume would be fiasco-adjacent: an Aldi OneZ sleeping bag suit. But don’t jump to conclusions; read the review first.

It really is an amazing, beautiful issue, one that I’m so proud of what our community of contributors have produced. They continue to blow my mind as ever. Head to
