Wild #190 is on sale now

Get ready to plunge into summer; Wild Issue #190 is going to the printers soon. For starters, get set to head to the mountains, where we’ve got walking in the Victorian High Country, in Tassie’s Western Arthurs, and in Kosciuszko NP. Need to cool down? Then how about checking out our guide for getting into packrafting. Need to cool down even more? Then follow Ryan Hansen as he heads into Bungleboori Canyon in NSW’s Blue Mountains. Still too warm? Then don’t forget that summer here in Oz also means skiing in the northern hemisphere; we’ve got a photo essay from Dylan Robinson who found some of the deepest snow of his life when he headed into the backcountry surrounding Japan’s Nozawa Onsen. But summer can also mean skiing in the southern hemisphere too, if you’re masochistic, err, adventurous enough to try to ski to the South Pole. Kelly Kavanagh did just that in a 62-day epic. And while, yes, epic is a much-overused word, it absolutely is not in this case (spoiler alert; they ran out of food). Lastly, in terms of our adventure features, there’s a special piece—a very personal, heartfelt story—by Mat Young on how three months of alpine climbing and splitboarding in NZ’s South Island helped him overcome an intense sense of isolation after leaving the Army. And that’s not all, of course. Megan Holbeck has written an excellent profile about one of Australia’s great adventure characters, Beau Miles. Dan Slater put his mind, and body, on the line to provide an informative—and very funny—tale about surviving Salt Lake City’s Outdoor Retailer trade show. And Lachlan Short has a piece on crag stewardship as climbers working to improve both their communities and the environs they climb in. There are also shorter pieces on group dynamics; on the neglect many of our walking trails suffer; and if you’re after summer reads, Craig Pearce returns with his biennial guide to the best nature writing on offer. On top all this, there are our regulars: our awesome columnists; our Green Pages; our Wild Shot; and more. It’s another spectacular issue. You don’t want to miss it. Head to
