Wild 197 is on sale now

Wild’s Spring 2025 issue is on sale now!

Adventure Entertainment 03.09.2025

Wild’s 2025 Spring Issue has just gone to the printers. The issue is a special one, with the strongest focus on alpinism the magazine has had in many years, if not decades. Four features in the issue relate to alpine climbing and/or ski mountaineering, including the cover story ‘The Flight of Icarus’, which explores the ramifications of a near miss while climbing in NZ.

There’s also a photo essay on climbing in Bolivia; a stunningly beautiful story on Nepal’s Ama Dablam; and a piece that delves into the psychology of why climbers climb. Beyond these alpinism features, though, there’s a Q+A with Australian mountaineer Allie Pepper (who’s currently deep into a project to climb, without oxygen, all 14 of the planet’s 8000-ers), and both our Getting Started and Wild Bunch sections are mountaineering-focused too.

But there’s more to the issue than mountaineering; we also look at hiking in Tassie’s Du Cane Range, in WA’s D’Entrecasteaux NP, and in the Vic High Country. We have a couple of awesome paddling features, too: one a spectacular bikerafting trip from Montenegro, and the other a north-to-south transect by packraft across the entirety of Tasmania.

And on the environment, there are stories on the plight of Tassie’s ancient trees and on the rare filling of Kati Thanda-Lake Eyre. Plus there’s our Green Pages roundup of conservation news, along with our regular columnists, gallery images, reviews, along with Wild’s beloved (especially by dirtbags!) annual Unsung Heroes gear special; it’s yet another jam-packed issue, one not to be missed.
